Looking my Best

When I shaved my gray beard off
all said I looked younger,
no longer sixty or sixty-five
but fifty, or even forty-five
Unlathered skin stayed fresh.

Even better, last year
my gastroenterologist said
--my designated driver repeated it
after anaesthesia cleared--
"You have the colon of a twenty-year old"
(there's a picture disk on file)
--Whole grains, no meat since nineteen.
