the baby-faced grunt
in dirty jungle fatigues
struts across my tv screen
brandishing so ferociously
his bayoneted M-16 bloody
and in spite of
his flippant smile
the taunt of his
smirking gait
i really can’t
do not want
to believe
he likes
to kill
?

in starched desert camies
sits demurely on a canvas cot
cleaning so thoroughly with care
a truly ugly black-steeled M4 carbine
and in spite of
her confidant smile
the certainty of her
straight posture
i really can’t
do not want
to believe
she likes
to kill
