i sit on the Big Ship ferry
waiting to cross lovely Trincomalee Bay
to Tsunami-devastated Mutur
 
in front of me sits a Tamil youth
wearing a T-shirt sponsored by USAID
blazoned on the back i read BAN TORTURE
 
i am psychically rabbit-punched
tears flowing from opened heart
so shamed by what my country has become
 
what the fuck, I wonder
does USAID think about
Abu Ghraib, Guantánamoπ
and other sinister, secret places
deep in the fetid bowels
of NeoConLand
