PORTRAIT IN SHADES OF BLUE
by Leonard Greco
Her face, framed in luster, glows
She’s lost in the melody of
these old world streets we stroll,
her thoughts drifting on late
summer gusts, her every movement along
centuries old cobble-stone, a symphony;
her voice as she speaks of
brush strokes, technique and
use of color, a hush of angels sighing –
I wish this moment to never end
This moment in MontMartre where we
sip wine amid roses, and watch as
tomorrow’s Monet, Matisse, Gaugan
masters the artful use of pigment on canvas
I wish this moment to never end,
yet full well know
nothing in the expanse of time
lasts more than a second or two
Each of us sees beauty in
our own way: in the sun rising;
the moon reflecting; stars flickering;
the smile on the lips of the Mona Lisa –
I could stay here for days, sipping wine and
glancing now and then at time captured in
oils; or better yet, listen intently, enraptured by
the elegance in her every whisper
I wish this moment to never end,
though I full well know
time refuses to stop
for either of us –
