IN OLD LECCE`

     In Piazza San Oronzo

     in the town of Lecce` in

     the province of Apulia

     watching two dogs

     sleeping side by side, I’m

     mistaken for a local by a

     man seemingly long lost

     I’d like to help,

     after all, it warms me to

     be thought of as a native

     I can’t be of service and

     the man moves on, a

     disappointed smile

     crossing his lips

     I sip my espresso
