Christmas Time in New York
by John Petrolino
A very evident
Transformation happens
In New York over Christmas
Men labor on the street
Working asphalt
Jackhammers, repairing
Water mains, spreading salt
Descending into tunnel three
Wearing their tattered
And stained clothes, abrased
Covered in dirt and muck
After the holiday
The city is consumed
By bright new sand stone
And blues, stiff Carhartts
Ready to make a buck
And the men, they labor
Again to make the money
Their kids will use to
Buy them new work clothes
Putting food on the table
Water in the pipes
Juice in our lines
And presents under the tree
For a whole new year
