AT THE BOTTOM OF IT ALL

As I toss my disposable rusted razor
in the bathroom garbage, I notice it’s teeming.
I press down on the discarded packets
of Crest WhiteningStrips,
jettisoned Tampon tubes
--“FIRE TORPEDOES THREE AND FOUR!”--
strings of Super Floss (for bridges under trouble waters),
and dead toilet paper rolls,
floating amidst a sea of debris.
All this in one small metallic cylinder,
the weight of America,
heavy as plutonium.
When I attempt to empty it,
something inside rips.
