FROM: A SONG FOR MY FATHER
by Desmond Egan
I chanced on a photo
my father in shirtsleeves
standing by the greenhouse
on so relaxed a summer's day
no one bothered to pose
least of all the dandelions
and my mother saying something to Kate
who wonders with the yellow roses
the privet hedge we cut down since looks lovely
a doll lies forever in the sun
and I can almost smell the dinner
see our folding chairs and table the
other side of my camera
the red serviettes blowing
home
