A weekly video reading of poetry by the poet.
The beautiful words that I had are gone
by Cath Nichlos
Let me tell you about my lipsticked mouth, my teeth.
Let me tell you about what I taste in my mouth
the words I use to cover up the taste
of people, the sight of people.
I see them, I hear them too, and they speak and
they move more beautifully than me,
they find their seats; they talk, graciously.
I would like to have more beautiful words
but the ones that I had
are gone.
My mouth shapes itself, and shapes itself
and cannot settle.
I dress with care. I paint my lips.
I show my teeth.
But all that I had is gone.
… My hands…
I smooth my frock. I press my lips together.
