A weekly video reading of poetry by the poet.
I Was Here. This Is Me.
by Barbara Southard
A pile of rocks by the river, driftwood
constructions on a wind-swept beach
names on the wall of a bathroom stall
or carved in the trunk of an old oak tree
striated markings on subway windows
spray-painted tags on sides of bridges
block letters in shadows, throw-ups
and stickers: I was here. This is me.
Proclamations of love on over-pass banners
initials incised in cement foundations
or interiors of caves, carvings
on tables or tops of mountains
abandoned houses, time-lined tunnels
or prison walls; signals sent
through the web, bottles dropped in the sea:
I was here. This is me.
