it will never happen
just this way again:
you, waiting for me
on the Museum steps
green beret
worn leather jacket
red-checked shirt
red tie
faint aroma of cigars
Old Spice
after the exhibit
we walked down 82nd
to a restaurant
our bursts of laughter
conversation
side-long glances
it happened so fast
I thought we might
and when you drove me
to Penn Station
I leaned over
to kiss you
it happened so fast
I wanted
