Peter Carlaftes is an author and poet, playwright, actor and director. 6 collections of his poetry have been published and 10 of his plays have been staged, to critical acclaim. Peter served as Creative Director of The Marilyn Monroe Memorial Theater in San Francisco for 10 years where he directed 10 plays including a deconstruction of Knut Hamsun’s classic work Hunger, and also starred in a one-man rendition of Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming. He has appeared in numerous Off-Broadway productions, including his performance piece, Lenny Bruce: Dead & Well, and his original works Dueling Karaoke and Sarah's Choice, at Theater for the New City. He recently starred as Victor Velasco in Barefoot in the Park at The Spoon, and as Jonathan Brewster in Aresenic and Old Lace for Phare Play Productions.
Carlaftes’ new book, A Year on Facebook, is due out on Three Rooms Press in November 2009. In December 2009, his book, Drunkyard Dog, is due out, also on Three Rooms Press.
