Women, Don’t Let Your Man Read Kerouac

If you want obedience, commitment, monogamy
Don’t let your man read Kerouac

If you want babies, a father, life insurance
Don’t let your man read Kerouac

If you want your grass mowed, screens washed
Basement organized
Don’t let your man read Kerouac

If you belong to the PTA, Methodist Church or
Intend to run for political office
Don’t let your man read Kerouac

If you fear AIDS, TB, DT’s
Don’t let your man read Kerouac

If you’re a morning person
Don’t let your man read Kerouac

If you refinish furniture, collect fine art
Or other breakables
Don’t let your man read Kerouac

Unless you can dance ecstatically with your own reflection in a spilled martini
Or follow the lines on a sailor’s tattoo
Unless you can disappear like a shot of tequila and reappear like a two hit roach

DO NOT Let your man read Kerouac

Jacqueline Moss

Northport Celebrates Jack is a collection of poems by Jacqueline Moss and several of Long Island’s most inspired writers, including Former Suffolk Poet Laureate, George Wallace.  Each poem is shaped by the musical genius of David Amram, a cohort and friend of the legendary Jack Kerouac.  In this collection the freewheeling spirit of America’s most beloved “Beat Writer” lives on.
