FREUDIAN DAYDREAM
by Edward Stever
I lie naked in bed,
in 93 degree heat
inflating Debbie,
a life-size doll,
by helium tank,
swiped from work
at the Novelty Shop.
Bulging she sails
to ceiling,
mouths a red, “O,”
while grinding
black garters against
grit-white paint.
Inflating
colored condoms —
blue, yellow,
and green —
I drop them up
at erogenous
landing zones,
but she dodges
in open-window
breeze and when
I shut my eyes —
a mere second —
she’s propelled
out the window
by a slow leak.
She hisses
over the fence,
stacks up above
the next yard,
where she
spirals down into
my neighbor’s pool.
I watch in horror
as kids race out
of the house
screeching,
“Look at the new raft
mom got!” then leap
onto Debbie who
slowly fizzles
to pool bottom —
another relationship
down the drain.
