Emily Hinshelwood worked as a development practitioner overseas and in the UK for 14 years. Now she writes mainly poetry, plays, and short stories. She runs workshops & courses in creative writing, gives poetry readings and facilitates a scriptwriters’ forum.
In 2003 Emily won the John Tripp Award for Spoken Poetry. More recently she has won the Roy Duncan short story competition and the Ken Bruford Award for lighthearted verse. She was the scriptwriter for the bilingual productions Dylan Pwy? Dylan Who? and Ugain Mlynedd Ymlaen.Her poetry collection Sucking at Sticky Fingers won the David St John Thomas Award for the best self-published poetry collection in 2004. She has been awarded a bursary from the Arts Council of Wales to write for professional theatre, and has recently had her play Sitting it out in Merthyr performed at the Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea.
Emily is currently working on a collection of poetry based on the Pembrokeshire coastal path, which will be published in 2008.
