A weekly video reading of poetry by the poet.

Dhanurasana
Pramila Venkateswaran

My head rising from darkness, tamas,
my hands swinging back to hold my feet
bending towards my back,
I am a taut bow ready for my warrior mind
to let loose its arrow toward its one true
target

not yet, not yet, says the wooden frame
breathing into its tightness
I am a boat, craning from the waters
of tamas that is trying to pull me into
its belly

I have been there and don’t want to
entertain another trip to its center

so wielding one final breath
I rise into the light, the air around
me marrying the spirit within—
an invisible tightness of the slight boat
riding the wave

its bow shape releasing its arrow of air.
